VAT – Online Filing
Are you ready for online filing of your VAT return?
From April 2010, all VAT registered businesses with a turnover
of more than £100,000 and all newly registered businesses will be required
to file the VAT returns online and pay any VAT due electronically.
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) believe there are a number of benefits
of filing online:-
- No postal delays
- Online help in completing the form
- Automatic calculations and checks to avoid arithmetical errors
- Immediate acknowledgement of submission
- Ability to view your payment/repayment history
- An additional seven days in which to submit your return and pay any VAT due
One other benefit of filing online is that you can notify HMRC of any changes
in your registration details using the online services.
If you are not yet set up to file online it is recommended that
you start this process now to ensure that when online filing becomes compulsory
you are in a position to comply. In order to register for online filing
you should visit the HMRC website at the following address:- http://online.hmrc.gov.uk/registration/
HMRC are encouraging all taxpayers to register for online filing
as it is planned that all forms will require to be filed online in the near
future. In year filing for PAYE is already compulsory as is self assessment
filing for Tax Returns filed after 31 October each year. It is also planned
that it will be compulsory to file Corporation Tax Returns online from 1
April 2011.
